You make me sick...

Yesterday evening I was enjoying a meal at Spring Rolls (specifically the Mississauga location at the Sussex Centre on Burnhamthorpe)... I was out with some friends for someone's birthday... it was overall and good time, everyone was enjoying themselves.

I had made myself well full from ordering my standard Tango Mango Fish & Shrimp, but decided to split dessert... coconut stick rice with mango... with Kendra because typically when we've ordered this not just from Spring Rolls but from other places, it has always been a delicious and satisfying end to a good meal. Anyways, we had almost made our way through the entire mound of sticky rice when I took my final bite. Pairing it with a piece of mango for what should have been sweet, fruity perfection, I put the combo into my mouth and began chewing. Everything seemed to be going as normal, when I suddenly felt a strange texture mid-chew. Something hard and slightly sharp... quite un-rice or mango-like was inside the food that was presently inside my mouth.

Quite disturbed by this alien texture I was experiencing (and please note, the vast majority of my food consumption habits are based upon texture), I decided to err on the side of poor table manners and remove it from my mouth to examine it.

To my surprise and utter disgust, it was a fingernail. Not
my fingernail. Just a fingernail. A stranger's fingernail was in my hand, after previously being in my mouth. I was almost too disgusted for words, but managed to get out an "oh hellllll no.... I did not just find a fingernail in my food." If you're interested, see below for a photo of said fingernail.

From this point forward I will no longer be a patron of Spring Rolls restaurants in Mississauga or elsewhere. The manager tried to comfort me by assuring me that it could not possibly be the fingernail of one of her staff, but that the fingernail must have been in the bag of rice and she would be speaking with her suppliers. But realistically I don't care where the fingernail originated, I am concerned solely with the fact that there was not only a fingernail in my food, but it was in the food inside my mouth. Someone's fingernail was inside my mouth, and I can't help but think that if I wasn't a slow-chewing eater, I may have swallowed that fingernail without ever knowing.

Fortunately I do know. And I also know that I will never again be giving my hard-earned dollars to the Spring Rolls chain or any of their affiliates. And may I recommend the same for you...

... and if anyone cares to know... having experienced both, I would definitely say fingernail trump
s hair in the disgusting-factor of interesting bodily food finds.

No need for an attorney, your honour I am guilty...

I'm a soca junkie :)

Unfortunately this past weekend I didn't quite live up to my reputation.

I had to make some last minute adjustments to my long weekend plans as some unforeseen circumstances caused it to become a fiscally conservative weekend.

It was a lot of fun though... girl's/games night, random Irish pub in 'sauga and bowling with a little dominoes thrown in... all in all a good weekend.

But I missed Soca or Die.... "de only fete to last two days" AND I MISSED BOTH! Destra, Faye-Ann, Bunji, Maximus, Tizzy, Nadia, and Kerwin.. I missed them all in order to save some money. I'm a little cheesed... but the situation is out of my hands for now.

But man... this girl [that girl] needs a fix... I have my playlist, my iPod, Soca Therapy... but I'm in need a of a real good fete. My body is aching for blasting soca and no behaviour until 4...5...6am! I'm a soca junkie experiencing withdrawal and it's not pretty.

Tribal Knights had their band launch this weekend @ SOD... While I didn't make it out, I'm really excited because I saw the costume that I'm playing in and it's so pretty! If you're reading this and happen to be interested in playing mas (getting costumed) for Caribana 08 holla in my direction. In the words of Shurwayne: ah cyan wait.

On the real... give me some Machel (that's my one and only true desire) live with a band and I'll be good to go. But until then, any fete will do... like I said, I just need a fix like SLJ in Jungle Fever ;)

the baggy sweatpants and the reeboks with the straps

Okay so it might be more like a pair of tights and rbks without the straps... but either way, in my mind I'm building up a passionate love affair with Madrid and NYC. They come out in July (above left) and November (above right) respectively, and this girl can't wait to get her not-so-grubby little hands on a pair of each. They'll go well with my Queens, and each will get its own special love and affection from moi :)
